Shelforce shortlisted for training and development G24 Award

Shelforce has been nominated for this year’s Training and Development Initiative of the Year award at the G24 Awards.

The leading manufacturer and supplier of uPVC windows, doors, and fire doors to Local Authority building projects has gained a reputation for its commitment to diversity and inclusion, with 75% of its 36-strong workforce having a physical or mental disability.

The company’s training and development initiative has not only transformed its workforce but also driven exceptional business performance, with the Birmingham-based business seeing a record turnover of £8.9 million this year.

Howard Trotter, Business Manager at Shelforce, said: “We are thrilled to be shortlisted for this G24 award. Our training and development initiative is more than just a business strategy and has helped create an environment where everyone can thrive, regardless of their abilities.”

Shelforce’s innovative program begins with a six-month paid work experience, followed by an interview process, which has been designed to overcome the challenges faced by individuals with learning disabilities in traditional recruitment processes. And, looking to the future, the company is currently working alongside Birmingham City Council to further improve the interview process for individuals with learning difficulties and disabilities.

“Our redesigned recruitment process allows individuals to showcase their true potential in a real-world setting, giving them a genuine opportunity to secure employment and contribute to our team,” added Howard, with Shelforce also honoured with the King’s Award for Enterprise in Promoting Opportunity (through social mobility) last year.

The winner will be announced at the G24 Awards night on Friday 29 November at the London Hilton Park Lane.
